South Zone league champions Naparima College claimed their second title of the year, when they defeated Shiva Boys 2-0 in the 2010 Coca Cola Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Zonal Intercol final at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, yesterday.
Naps who lost in last year’s final to Presentation College 5-4 on penalty kicks, ensured that this one was not going to go down that road. It was also sweet revenge for Naparima, who lost in the opening league match to Shiva 1-0. Naps broke the deadlock in the 39th minute compliments of a Dquielle Matthews strike 1-0.
The scoreline remained unchanged until the 72nd minute when Adan Noel found the net to make it 2-0, and sealed the deal. Meanwhile Central zone champions will be crowned as defending champion Carapichaima takes on Waterloo at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva from 4 pm today.
Caps has dominated this zone for the past couple of years, but have had to push themselves a bit more this season, as the other teams have lifted their standard. Waterloo, which placed last in the league last season, held Caps to a 1-1 draw in this year’s opening match. Both teams will no doubt be going all out for the win today.
