Government information agency website hacked

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, – A hacker using the identity, PhaNtom_clAn Gy, has shut down the Government Information Agency (GINA) website.
Visitors to the site at gina.gov.gy, expecting to find the usual government information have instead been greeted by a black page with the image of a fiery eye and a message that the site had been hacked by PhaNtom_clAn Gy.
GINA said, in a statement, that it was not the first time that efforts had been made to hack its website, noting that over the past few months many attempts had been made and, on one occasion, the attacks led to the website being inaccessible.
In November last year, the site was down for several days after being hacked.
The agency said the latest attempt was noticed when material which did not emanate from GINA was reportedly received by some individuals via e-mail.
“GINA will continue to make every effort to improve the security of the site and has lodged a formal complaint with the Commissioner of Police,” the agency said.
