The purpose of the Reggae Music Achievement Awards is to publicly recognize and highlight the outstanding contributors to the reggae music industry in Canada.

June 10th, 2007 was the launch of the first annual Reggae Music Achievement Awards in Toronto, Canada. The show’s founder and host is reggae media veteran, Delroy Sterling.

Sterling who has been the host of the “mix supreme show” on CHRY since 1995 initiated the awards as a way to honor reggae/dancehall artists for their accomplishments over the year. The show focuses primarily on the Canadian reggae scene but does have categories acknowledging international attainments. In addition to honoring artists, the award show also honors reggae media (this includes radio personalities as well as online and printed magazines).

Unfortunately, the music industry in Canada does not give reggae the light it deserves. As a result, artists in this genre have always thought it to be extremely difficult to garner any attention. That being said, a Reggae Music Achievement Awards Show has been anticipated and well received.

This year the show will be held on Saturday, June 4th at the Jamaica Canadian Association, 995 Arrow Road, in Toronto. It will feature the likes of Gramps Morgan, 2010 International Album of the Year winner, Thrilla U, Big A from Irie FM, Exco Levi, and many others. All backed by "Canada's Hardest Working Band," EOP. The event is expected to be the highlight of the year as far as the Canadian reggae community goes.
