Adding to the bill is the line up of Shurwayne Winchester and his band YOU, who are set for Bacchanal Jamaica’ s big stage. Full of melody and lyrical structure that both men and women love, Shurwayne has been composing and delivering soca from the tender age of twelve. He hails from Tobago and is acclaimed and awarded for both his singing and songwriting abilities.
Shurwayne’ s on-stage performance has been noted as one that commands the crowd, brings energy and momentum to any event. Throughout the years Shurwayne has performed with many soca bands but many first noticed him in 1998 when he joined the dynamic band Caribbean Traffik Jam as a frontline singer. No stranger to the big competitions he has won the coveted Trinidad and Tobago Road March in 2004 with The Band Coming and again in 2005 with Dead or Alive an infectious track that still receives great airplay in many Carnival celebrations today.
It was in 2006 that he swept both the Groovy Soca and Power Soca Monarch titles with ” Don’t Stop and Can’t Wait respectively. In that same year (2006) he remixed Tempo originally composed and sung by the 1977 Road March winner, undisputed Calypso Queen and fellow Tobagonian, Calypso Rose. Shurwayne’ s 2010 hit Murda’ won him the Groovy Soca title yet again.
Shurwayne never fails to deliver a true road-worthy song with Paparazzi his 2011 song about the snap shots of people full enjoying carnival, in a fete, on the road and the Frenchmen Shangri La experience DJ Kurt Riley, the party animal, has also been brought in to compliment the sheer pace and momentum scheduled for the night in an abundance of drink specials by Pure Country and Appleton.
Bacchanal Jamaica continues to urge socaphiles to look out for the season’s events: Beach J’Ouvert on Saturday April 23 at James Bond Beach, Ocho Rios, Soca @ De Sandbar on April 27, Bacchanal J’Ouvert Friday April 29 and
Bacchanal Road March on May 1.
