Pakistan intelligence official admits embarrassment

The Intelligence Agency in Pakistan has admitted it is embarrassed after al-Qaida leader, Osama bin Laden was found and killed at an area that agency raided several years ago.

According to an intelligence official, the compound in Abbottabad, where bin Laden was killed by US forces on Sunday, had been raided while it was under construction in 2003.

But the official said, that compound had not been on the agency’s radar since then.

The compound is just a few hundred metres from the Pakistan Military Academy.

The official, who has not been named, is quoted as saying that the intelligence agency was caught by surprise and didn’t have time to respond to the operation by the United States.

However, he defended the intelligence agency saying its failure is not a sign of incompetence as the ISI has captured hundreds of Taliban and al-Qaida members.
