Police searching for Dudus replacement

Lawmen release a list of the 16 most wanted and at the top of the list is a man they believe is becoming the crime boss in western Kingston.

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Wednesday November 17, 2010 – The man believed to be filling the spot of west Kingston crime boss now that Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke is gone is at the top of the list of the country’s most wanted.

Police say Omar ‘Fowl’ Miller is now know as the interim leader of the Tivoli Gardens Gang.

Coke was caught in June, a few weeks after a battle between his supporters and the security forces in Tivoli Gardens and surrounding areas, and subsequently extradited to the US where he has been charged with drug dealing and gun running. Miller, who moved out of the community just before police and soldiers went in search of Coke is said to be trying to take over.

“He is also attempting to retrieve weapons from gang members that were issued by the leadership of the gang in preparation for the confrontation with security forces in May of this year, but this is being resisted by the members. He is also influencing criminal activities within the Kingston Western Division,” Deputy Superintendent Arthur Brown told a press conference yesterday as the names of the wanted men were released.

Others on the list include “the number one gang leader in St Andrew Central”, Christopher "Dog Paw" Linton who has eluded several police dragnets.

Superintendent Derrick Knight told reporters that Linton has no regard for lawmen.

“Even when information or messages are sent to him to come in, the reply is ‘Yu haffi get pass mi gun’,” he said, adding that the gang leader’s weapon of choice is the AK-47.

The senior officer added that Linton’s organizing ability is “almost second to none in terms of influencing the youths and the citizens in the August Town area”.

Linton is also alleged to be a significant player in the extortion activities in and around August Town and Papine, in the southeastern parish of St Andrew.

Of the 16 people on the list, 10 are being sought in connection with murder while the others are wanted for shootings.

The other 14 on the list are: Colin Hugh Brooks, Ricardo Wright, Nicholas Hayman, Allando Hibbert, Steve Dudley alias Lance Edwards-Stone, Randy Rodman aka ‘Cardo’, Andre ‘Harry Dawg’ Marsden, Delroy ‘Pops’ Dennis, Patrick Salmon alias ‘Speedy, Tremaine ‘Piggy’ Lindsay, Sheldon Rowe, Carl Stewart who is also known as ‘Cougar’ or ‘Sheriff’, Justin Berry, and Andre Thomas.

"DOG PAW" ADDED TO THE LIST

THE Area Four Police yesterday released the names of Jamaica's 16 most wanted men, whose apprehension they believe will result in a marked reduction in crime throughout Kingston and St Andrew.
Ten of the men are wanted for murder and the others have been linked to incidents of shootings within the Area Four geographic divisions, which covers the volatile areas of Kingston West, Kingston Central, Kingston East, St Andrew Central and St Andrew South.

The names were released during a police press conference at the Area Four Police headquarters in downtown Kingston.
"The drive to apprehend these men is part of a major initiative to clamp down on crime and violence in Kingston and St Andrew," Assistant Commissioner of Police Gervis Taylor told the Observer following the briefing.
Gervis, who heads the division, said the arrests would result in a massive reduction in crime, as men were believed to wield considerable influence throughout the areas in which they operate.
The assistant commissioner, during the press briefing, called on members of the public to assist with the men's apprehension.
Heading the most wanted list is August Town resident, Christopher Linton who goes by the name "Dog Paw". Linton is wanted for several crimes within the St Andrew Central Police Division including murder.
"He is a significant player in a number of murders in August Town," said Superintendent Derrick 'Cowboy' Knight, who heads St Andrew Central Police Division.
Knight said the "number one policy" is to apprehend Linton whose weapon of choice is said to be the AK47.
The police said they have been trying for some time to apprehend Linton and have sent messages for him to turn himself in only to be told in return, "Uno have to get pass me gun."
The number two man on the list is being identified as Omar Miller, who is popularly know as "Andy Foul".
Miller, who is identified as the interim leader of the Tivoli Gardens Gang, is wanted for his alleged involvement in several murders throughout the Western Kingston area.
Police say Miller has been on the run since fleeing Tivoli Gardens during the operations by members of the security forces in May to apprehend then Tivoli Gardens strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, who has since been extradited to the United States where he is awaiting trial on drug-trafficking and gunrunning charges.
The police say they were preparing for violent confrontations in their efforts to apprehend the men.

Coke Prepares for the Next Phase of Trial

Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, the former reputed Jamaican drugs and weapons dealer, will return to a Manhattan Court here tomorrow for the next phase of his pre-trial preparations.
Coke has been in jail since June when he was extradited to face charges of allegations of illegal dealings in drugs and gun running.
Prosecutors at the United States Attorney's Office for the southern district of New York, have meticulously been preparing their case and providing material to Coke's defence team.
The case, which attracted worldwide attention following a stand off between US and Jamaican Government authorities over Coke's extradition earlier this year, is being presided over by US Federal Judge, Robert P Patterson.
Patterson will likely set a trial date for sometime in the Spring at tomorrow's hearing. In the meantime, defence attorneys who are still expecting more materials from prosecutors, will be submitting motions to the court within the next 60 days. These will likely include objections to some of the material.
