Mavado charged with assault



Dancehall artist Mavado will appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court in St. James on August 8 to answer the two charges which were laid against him.
The 30-year old artist, whose given name is David Brooks, was  charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and malicious destruction of property.
The charges are in connection with an incident on Friday evening, July 22.
Mavado is accused of assaulting a man and damaging his Toyota Camry motorcar, after an argument along the Belmont main road in  St. James.


It was reported that the complainant stopped along the road to allow a line of traffic to pass, when he and his son were attacked by the artist and members of his entourage.
The complainant sustained injuries to his back, leg and forehead.    
Martin Thomas, the attorney, who accompanied Mavado to the police on Wednesday, says the artist is eager to clear his name.
